Village of Delchevo

Located 8 km. above Gotse Delchev is the village of Delchevo, which impresses visitors with its Renaissance spirit and authenticity. The village was founded in the 17th century during the Ottoman slavery in Bulgaria. Remarkable are the buildings in Delchevo, a kind of architectural ensemble of national and international importance. They represent the typical buildings of that time, which were built on stone foundations. It was typical for the buildings to have up to three floors and to have many windows. Tourists could visit the complex of 30 impressive Renaissance houses, which are part of 64 cultural monuments. An interesting place is the church “Holy Assumption”, dating from 1838. For fans of natural beauty there are beautiful eco-paths leading to amazing places in the mountains.
